When crafting our latest bottling of Smoky Wedding Single Malt, we faced a delightful dilemma: eight mature 50-litre American Oak Ex Bourbon casks. Among them, two stood out.

Working with our friends at The Whisky List, we set about developing a first for Furneaux - a “Distiller’s Cut”. Through meticulous tastings and expert blending, we fine-tuned the ABV to a bold 58%, ensuring that the rich, natural flavors of the cask strength remained gloriously intact. the things that I liked the most from this release however was the fact that it was completely unfiltered. Any flock (fats and oils) that would have been visible in this whisky making it cloudy in the bottle, are all soluble at the higher ABV, so there was no need to do any filtering at all!

The result? The best things about Smoky Wedding - its briney, smoky biscuitty sweetness (almost) unadulterated by the addition of water. Just a touch of dilution brought out the best rich and buttery profile of this whisky. Dangerously well balanced at 58%, it still leaves you with an oily, moreish finish.
