• If you fly into the main town of Whitemark, you will see Furneaux Distillery emblazoned on the roof of The Flinders Wharf. If you come by sea, you can anchor in Parry’s Bay and row ashore where our stillhouse sits right on the beach.

Peating is also done on-site, you can smell the faint waft of peat smoke flowing down the streets of Whitemark, truly making Flinders Island feel like the antipodean Islay.

  • The Furneaux Farm is the home of our distiller, the site of our bond store and the future of Furneaux Distillery. A beautiful 1.5km of beachfront pasture which has produced some of the famous Flinders Island Saltgrass Lamb. Sheep graze on rolling hills by the gum trees and tussocks, sea spray comes lashing in from the prevailing westerly winds to douse the bond store roof and fill our rain tanks.

After trial crops of barley proved successful, we are working towards our own crop of barley at the Furneaux Farm in 2022. This, alongside our new brewhouse will give us the ability to grow, malt, peat, ferment and distil all in the same field on the west coast of Flinders Island. True paddock to bottle whisky.

  • Visits to the distillery are welcome, however production is paramount, and due to the ever-shifting nature of the island, the changing tides and conditions, our schedule is malleable. So send us an email, call or smoke signal to arrange a time to visit. Our distiller will show you through the process and guide you through a taste of our spirits.
